New Letter to Editor, LFP: Where London Police can Improve

As a veteran of WW2 and a retired regular Canadian Army soldier I feel insulted by the views expressed in the letter "Police overreact on Nov. 11." After two broad-daylight murders of two serving Canadian soldiers I was fully expecting a heightened police presence. Did I feel safer? Yes, absolutely. Were assault rifles necessary? Yes, absolutely; this was no time to nickel and dime. Were Londoners in danger of an attack? The Islamic State is on record urging their supporters in Canada to take revenge for Canadian airstrikes. But where the London Police are open to criticism is for their appointment of Munir El-Kassem as a Police Chaplain. They obviously did not apply due diligence when selecting this individual for such a public position. For example, El-Kassem presents Muslim Brotherhood leader and IIIT founder Ismail Faruqi as “one of the great Muslim scholars of modern times." Furthermore, this cleric has the unmitigated gall to label Canadian Muslims such as Salim Mansur, Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah as Islamophobes for their efforts to bring Islamic doctrine in line with Canadian values. Listen to this rant at the London Muslim Mosque: http://www.londonmosque.ca/LondonMosque2013/free-extensions/islamic-topics/78-islamic-development-inside-and-outside-the-community And this from the blog Point de Bascule documents his Islamist ties: http://pointdebasculecanada.ca/imam-munir-el-kassem-a-leader-of-a-terror-funding-organization-and-a-chaplain-of-the-london-ontario-police-service/ Let us ensure that our city's institutions, such as police and public schools, support those Muslims and their organizations who are truly working to bring Canadian values into the Islamic mainstream.
